The Bird Still Sings

At 5:30 am this morning, I awoke to the early morning darkness of daylight savings time amidst the continued symphonic sound of the three day Texas rain. The rain and darkness were seemingly symbolizing the dreariness the novel coronavirus has brought to the world. As I laid in bed thinking through the countless times God has provided for my family and me, I heard a bird sing.

This bird, in the midst of pouring rain and blinded from the early morning darkness, this bird was chirping away, singing his morning song. My mind instantly was saturated with these familiar words, “Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” I was quickly encouraged not to start worrying. I also sensed another message in my heart…continue to sing. Continue to sing, doing what you were created to do. Continue to sing, because others need to hear your tune. Continue to sing, because God’s glory is reflected when you bellow a song. Continue to sing, like a bird when the sunshine is gone. Whatever you see, whatever the change, always remember the bird still sings.
